Memorise: “Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing” (Hebrews 5:11)

Read: Hebrews 5:11-14

Pastor E. ADEBOYE

“And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do” (Genesis 18:17).

God likes to share His secrets with us. A look at the above verse shows that God will not have a friend He cannot share His secrets with. In John 15:15, Jesus says, “Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his Lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you”.

While the Lord still relates with some believers at the level of servants, He relates with a few at the level of friends. A man would not reveal his secrets to his servant. But he will to his friend, especially his bosom friend. This tells us that if you cannot access divine secrets, irrespective of your position, office or title, you are a servant, not yet a friend of the Master. God could confide in Abraham because they were friends. Are you a friend of God?

Apart from being a servant, another reason divine secrets are kept from believers is because of being dull of hearing. God speaks to His children regularly but many are either too busy to listen, or too insensitive to discern His voice. If you are dull of hearing, it means there is some spiritual cotton wool tucked into your spiritual eardrum. Everything blocking your ability to hear from God will be removed in Jesus’ Name. Speed is involved in hearing. The one who is sluggish at hearing, is dull of hearing, and therefore would waste so much information.

“Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing” (Hebrews 5:11). A look at today’s reading reveals certain characteristics of believers who are dull of hearing. If your pastor considers you not qualified to hear certain Bible truths inspite of having spent several years in the Lord, you are dull of hearing. If it is difficult for you to receive and immediately adjust to God’s perfect Word and counsel, you are dull of hearing.

If you run away from hearing those who teach you the undiluted Word of God, but look for the ministers that preach to excite your ears, you are dull of hearing. If you prefer motivational messages to holiness messages, you are dull of hearing.

If your spiritual growth is epileptic or you are still bench-warming when you should have long become a worker, you are dull of hearing. There is a heap of divine information awaiting to be delivered from Heaven to those who are dull of hearing. What is your speed of hearing?

Your speed in obeying divine instructions determines your speed in hearing. How fast is this speed?
