Christian sermon on mystery of speaking in tongues

Another purpose for the gift of tongues is to get us out of tight situations. God can for a period of time and for a specific purpose supernaturally endow you with an understanding of a language you have never learnt. This is not done to glorify the flesh but to support the Kingdom business.

An American preacher once went to preach in Spain. On the day he was to minister, his Interpreter was nowhere to be found. He found himself in a tight corner and called on the Lord for help. In answering his distress call, the Lord gave him the power to speak Spanish and he preached directly in the language he never learnt.

Sometime ago, one of my daughters went on a missionary trip to some distant land to preach the Gospel. On reaching there, language barrier stood between the natives and the Gospel. So she looked up to God to do something and she received the divine empowerment to speak the language of the natives and they yielded to the Lord.

Similarly, one of our midwives in our maternity centre was to take delivery of a baby. The patient could not understand her language and vice versa. So she called on God and received the power to speak the patient’s language and they freely communicated in that language while the patient remained in the maternity centre.

The gift of interpretation of tongues could be given to glorify God among heathens as was the case when Daniel interpreted the writing on the wall for King Belshazzar (Daniel 5:25-28). There are several hand writings on the walls that require interpretations. Families, communities, institutions and nations are in need of people who can interpret the ‘handwriting on their walls’ so that God’s name may be glorified.

Can you make yourself available for God’s use? He has the answers to the problems of men and is willing to reveal them to you. It takes a walk with the Holy Spirit and growing in the domain of the spirit. May the Lord count you a worthy custodian of His secrets.

According to Acts 2:4-8, the greatest purpose of the gift of tongues is to prepare believers for Heaven, When we get to Heaven, we will he speaking in different languages but we will understand each other. Don’t miss this fun!
