Turning Mountains into Molehills - No Signal Found, Disconnected

Don’t you hate when you get the message “No Signal Found” on your phone or other electronic devices? Staying connected is a necessity for our modern world. But, we know we will get disconnected sooner or later or experience an interruption of service. Frustrations will follow as we wait for the company to correct the issue.

Once, we traveled across parts of rural Maine. The scenery provided us hours of majestic views of mountains and valleys. As I looked at my phone, I realized this area had no cell service. This situation lasted for long periods. I worried about what we would do if an emergency occurred since we could not make calls. Before long, we entered more populated areas and got our service back.

Disconnected

Sometimes, I feel like I lost the signal with God too. Do you ever think that way? Our Heavenly Father can seem very far away from us when we don’t hear His voice. When I experience times like this, I must look at the circumstances going on in my life. Is my connection broken, or am I just not listening to God? More often than not, the disconnect is on my end and requires my attention.

Lost the Signal

Did I turn off the sound on my phone? Maybe the reason I don’t hear God is that my heart is closed to His message for me. Maybe, I set my heart of a specific answer, so anything less, and I ignore it. Just like toddlers, we might stomp our feet when God does not give us what we want. As we pout because we did not get our way, the connection gets interrupted. Once we turn back to Christ and ask for His forgiveness, the line opens again.

Am I out of range of my carrier? Sometimes, we experience so much sin in our life, we think Jesus can no longer reach us. Again, the problem appears to be on our end of the line. To re-establish the disconnected line, we must seek forgiveness from God in prayer. Like a good service technician, getting on our knees to look at the issue provides us many answers.

Re-Establish the Line

The Bible offers us many reassurances that we never lose our signal with God. Here are a few verses to refer to the next time we experience an interruption:

Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Deuteronomy 31:6, “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

Matthew 28:20, “Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Hebrews 13:5, “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’”

Romans 8:38-39, “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

1 John 5:15, “And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”

Jeremiah 29:12-13, “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
