Which Road Are You Traveling On?

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate
and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But
small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find
it.”
(Matthew 7:13-14)

In Matthew chapters 5 through 7 we read the marvelous
teachings of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount.  Coming to the end of His teaching, Jesus is
calling His listeners to make a very important decision, which road are they
going to take.  The wide road
which leads to death or the narrow road which leads to life.

This is a question that the entire universe must
ponder and answer.  This is a
picture of life.  For in reality, life is
nothing more than a matter of choosing the right road. Which of the two roads
are you traveling on?  Jesus lets us know
in this text that we do have an option.  He
gives us a description of two roads, one as the narrow gate which allows us
entry into the kingdom of God and the other as the wide and broad gate
that leads to hell.

My question to every one of us today is, “Which
road are we traveling on?”

If we are expected to spend eternity with God the Father
in heaven, Jesus advises us to enter the road that leads to the narrow
gate.  The narrow gate refers to Jesus.  Jesus Himself declares in John 14:6 that, “I
am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except
through me.”
  It is only through a
personal relationship with Jesus Christ that we are able to enter God’s
kingdom.  The wide gate refers to Satan
and hell.  It is through the rejection of
Jesus that allows one to travel this road and enter hell.

Jesus says the access to the narrow gate will not be
easy, but it will be worth it.  The narrow gate allows us access to God’s
eternal Kingdom.  We must daily attempt
to enter the narrow gate like a runner in an athletic race.  We must daily prepare ourselves through prayer
and the Word of God.  We
must continue to press our way forward and persevere through
obstacles, trials and tribulations, knowing that there is a cloud of witnesses
that have gone on before us who are cheering us on to the finish line during
this Christian journey.

Which of the two gates are you currently traveling?

Now that you have received the knowledge of truth from
God’s Word, which road will you choose to travel from this moment forward?  We all have been given the final destination
of both roads from Jesus.  We all will
spend eternity in one of two places.  Either
heaven or hell.  There is no place in
between!  We all live according to one of
two options.  We live according to the
will of God for our lives or we live according to our flesh and what it tells
us to do.

Two gates, two paths, but only one choice and
one destination.  The question to be
answered by all of us on today is, “Which one will you choose?
