Defeat Doubt with Truth—August 15 Bible Reading Plan - Denise Pass

Defeat doubt with truth

Defeat Doubt with Truth

Doubts. They can flood in or sneak in and wiggle their way into our mind and heart. They can cause us to doubt God’s goodness or existence. The cares of this world can fill us with doubts and concerns. But our doubts are under our authority. We don’t have to let doubts dictate to us. We can choose to defeat doubt with truth and faith.

Bible Reading of the Day: Psalm 93-95

Psalms 93 – 99 are called “royal psalms” because they call God “king”. In many verses of these psalms, the word *LORD, with 4 capital letters is written. This translates the *Hebrew word Yahweh (or Jehovah).

The Psalmist begins with a testimony about God’s greatness and rulership. God reigns, whether or not man acknowledges it.

Psalm 93:1-2, “The Lord reigns! He is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed, enveloped in strength. The world is firmly established; it cannot be shaken. 2 Your throne has been established from the beginning; you are from eternity.”

Defeat Doubt with Truth—Knowing God

  • Knowing God’s sovereignty. He is in complete control over all of creation.
  • Knowing God’s character.
  • By knowing that God knows everything.
  • And informing our feelings with truth and believing it!

Psalm 93:5, “Lord, your testimonies are completely reliable; holiness adorns your house for all the days to come.”

First, God is incapable of being faithful or truth. When we know His character and know Him, we defeat doubt with truth.

Psalm 94:8-11, “8 Pay attention, you stupid people! Fools, when will you be wise? 9 Can the one who shaped the ear not hear, the one who formed the eye not see? 10 The one who instructs nations, the one who teaches mankind knowledge—does he not discipline? 11 The Lord knows the thoughts of mankind; they are futile.”

Defeat Doubt with Truth—God is Sovereign

Second, We defeat doubt with truth when we acknowledge God’s sovereignty over all of our circumstances. God knows every thought we have, every hair on our heads is numbered. Such knowledge is too much for us to conceive. And yet mankind can doubt Him. We can doubt when we think things should be run a little differently down here. And we can forget that God gave man free will and man has messed things up down here, but God is still sovereign over it all, and miraculously working all things together for our good and His glory.

Defeat Doubt with Truth—God Will Never Leave Us

Psalm 94:14

“The Lord will not leave his people or abandon his heritage.”

Moreover, when our feelings tell us that we are forgotten, we inform our feelings with facts. God is incapable of forsaking or forgetting us.

Scripture of the day: Psalm 94:17-19  NLT

“Unless the Lord had helped me, I would soon have settled in the silence of the grave. 18 I cried out, “I am slipping!” but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me. 19 When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.”

The word for comfort means “compassion or solace”. God cares. Just because we walk through hard times does not mean that He does not care. God’s comfort gave hope and joy. Christ is our joy. When our hopes are set on this world, we invite doubts in.

Ultimately, friends, doubting is a part of life, but it does not have to defeat us. Friends, have you ever doubted? Doubted God’s goodness or whether or not He hears you? Maybe even doubted if God is real? The enemy of our souls plagues us with doubt, fear, anxiety, accusations. But we don’t have to stay there.

Defeat Doubt with Truth—Worship Sets Us Free

Finally, doubt meets its demise as we worship  God. When we worship God, we choose something greater Someone greater than what surrounds us. And God helps us to rise above it all by faith and His immeasurable grace.

“Come, let’s worship and bow down; let’s kneel before the Lord our Maker. 7 For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, The sheep of His hand.”

God sees you, friend. You are known and loved.

Application

  • When our feelings tell us that we are forgotten, we inform our feelings with facts.
  • God is incapable of forsaking or forgetting us.
  • Defeat Doubt with Truth
