9 Other Names Of The New Testament Church! Part-2! - Raising Zion

Welcome..!! 🤗

To the second part of this topic. The New Testament Church has been referred to with 9 different names in the Word of God. Each of these names have a significant meaning and role in the life of a believer, who is also called the New Testament Church! Moreover, we individually must also know who we are; that is, the great and high calling with which the Lord has called and separated us for Himself. If interested, you may find the first part of this series here.

God’s Flock!

We are the sheep of God’s pasture and He lovingly calls us His own. How wonderful, isn’t it? You know, there is safety in being watched over by this loving Shepherd because not only will He take us to greener pastures, but He will come seeking even if one of His sheep is in trouble. The Lord asks His ministers(the pastors and overseers) to take good care of His flock.

Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Acts‬ ‭20:28-29‬. The Lord leads His people as a flock, to the promised goal through the hands of His ministers! Psalms 77:20! 🙌

God’s Heritage!

The archaic meaning of the word “Heritage” is — a special or individual possession; an allotted portion. The New Testament Church is God’s heritage. He shed His precious Blood and bought her from the hands of the wicked, for Himself. He loves her dearly. This heritage has been given into the hands of God-chosen ministers, whom He desires to be examples to the flock. Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. 1 Peter‬ ‭5:3‬. 🙌

Body of Christ

The other name for New Testament Church is the Body of Christ; and Jesus, the head of the Church. For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. 1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:12‬. Even though we may be of different countries, language, creed and colour, Jesus made us to become members of His body, the day we decided to follow Him fully.

And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. Ephesians‬ ‭1:22-23‬. 🙌

Wife of Christ!

Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. Revelation‬ ‭19:7‬. Today, the New Testament Church is known as the Wife of Christ performing the wifely duties of her husband, Christ. Just like an earthly wife, who vows to stand and be with her beloved in prosperity/poverty/sickness/health, the New Testament Church, being wife of Christ also remains as a faithful and devoted to Jesus, in which ever path He leads her.

Bride of Christ!

The New Testament Church continues to remain as the bride of Christ, even after she’s married to Jesus. That’s the difference between the heavenly wedding and earthly wedding. On earth, a bride lasts as a “bride” only till the wedding day. The next day, she carries the name of her husband and becomes his wife. St.Paul compares the bride of Christ to a chaste virgin. 2 Corinthians‬ ‭11:2‬.

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. Ephesians‬ ‭5:25-27‬.

May the Lord help us to possess each of these attributes of the New Testament Church and prepare to meet Jesus when He comes!

Be blessed! đź’•
