Our finances do not define us, whether we are rich or poor. But still we can think our worth or lack of worth comes from that place.

What we own does not define us.

As I clutched my purse closely to me in church, I hoped secretly no one would notice a small worn down section near the zip. Finances had been tight for me in every area and I could not afford to spend lavishly on accessories during this tight season.

Coming from a family that has buoyed between lean and affluent times, I knew that lean seasons were not my favorite, yet it was possible to still balance the basic necessities with some creativity.

What we own does not limit us.

God wants us to exercise wisdom with finances.

As I ran my fingers over my purse, I felt thankful I was able to find a quality purse to gently use for the next few years. As a lady came over and began to eye my purse, I held my breath. She complimented my purse as she gingerly touched it and I let out a sigh of relief.

Gratitude for our provision can uproot the shame of financial lack.

What we own does not shame us.

Through the various valleys of financial woes, I have realized that shame begins to surface when lack is present. I learned as I grew in faith, gratitude can help grow and multiply the little I do have and while I may not have control over everything, I can learn to be a diligent steward of my finances step by step.

God delights to impart practical knowledge to establish wealth and legacy for our families through biblical principles.

Creating reasonable goals and gleaning wisdom from biblical sources can help create a healthier financial balance and create the momentum needed to establish wealth and abundance.

There is no shame in moving out of lack to a healthier financial blueprint for you and your family.

Each one us can remember financial decisions we have made that have not been wise. Learning to be good stewards and applying God’s principles can help sustain us financially until we know how to thrive abundantly. And when we are tempted to think what we own defines us, we need to remember there is no shame for what we own, for God owns it all.
