How To Know God's Perfect Will For Your Life - Christian Perspectives

Like most dedicated Christians, I’m sure you want to be used by God. How can we know God’s will for our life? Taking that statement a bit further, how can we know God’s perfect will for our life?

To steer us in the right direction, let’s look at what the Bible says about the tabernacle.

That is why the Tabernacle and everything in it, which were copies of things in heaven, had to be purified by the blood of animals. But the real things in heaven had to be purified with far better sacrifices than the blood of animals.  Hebrews 9:23

The furnishings in the tabernacle were replicas of what is in heaven. Who knows if any of those objects are still in existence today. The originals, however, are in a safe place. The specifications of each item placed in the tabernacle had to be carried out to a tee.

I have seen pictures of what people thought the articles looked like. Can there be any doubt that when they were built, they were exactly as God wanted them? The reason, Moses didn’t choose the person who would do the work, God did.

God Equips Us to fulfill His Will

Look, I have specifically chosen Bezalel . . . of the tribe of Judah. I have filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts. He is a master craftsman, expert in working with gold, silver, and bronze. And he is skilled in engraving and mounting gemstones and in carving wood. He is a master at every craft! Exodus 31:2-5

God didn’t just call one person to make the articles that needed to perfectly match His specifications. There was an assistant and many others.

And I have personally appointed Oholiab . . . of the tribe of Dan, to be his assistant. Moreover, I have given special skill to all the gifted craftsmen so they can make all the things I have commanded you to make. Exodus 31:6

All these craftsmen starting with Bezalel did not start to do crafts the day they were called by God. I’m sure it was no surprise to many that the Lord singled them out to work on the tabernacle. The surprise may have been some of the talented people who weren’t chosen for the project.

How Can We Know God’s Perfect Will

So how can we know God’s perfect will for our life? The Lord will give us skills, talents, or passions. Just like the craftsmen in the Old Testament had to develop their skills. We must also develop ours. An accomplished piano player didn’t sit at the piano one day and play as well as they play now.

Have you developed a passion for something? And when you think about it, that passion wasn’t even on your horizon 5 or 10 years ago. God has a way of equipping us for His purposes. They don’t just happen though. We have to take them and let them grow within us. Sometimes we reject what God has called us to do.

Your Skills, Talents, or Passions.

Do you have a skill or a talent? Are you passionate about something? If not ask God to reveal to you what His perfect will is for your life. I’m not necessarily talking about visible ministries. Maybe you are developing something in your life at present. Let’s take another look at Exodus to see how God prepared Bezalel.

I have filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise. . . Ask God to fill you with His Spirit. Pray for wisdom and ask Him to increase your ability. Then ask Him to give you the expertise to fulfill your ministry for the glory of God.
