Open The Way And Let The King Of Glory Enter! - Christian Perspectives

Psalm 24 is a song about the Majesty of the Lord. Verse 7, our verse for today is where the chorus begins and is then repeated in verse 9. The theme of what David wrote about in this Psalm was to open the way and let the King of glory enter.

Open up, ancient gates!  Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter. Psalm 24:7

When I was young, my mother, brother and I moved to the United States from England, We flew into Kennedy Airport in New York City. I remember two observations as a young 7-year old that fascinated me.

The first was the stairs moved. I had never seen an escalator before. It amazed me that all you had to stand on them and they took you up or down by themselves. The other was the doors that automatically opened. I had never seen anything like that up until that time in my life.

In this Psalm did you notice what it says about the gates and doors? It doesn’t say to open the doors for the king. David spoke right to the doors themselves. Open up, ancient gates!  Open up, ancient doors. Why? Because the king is going to pass through you in all His glory.

He went on to qualify this King by what He had accomplished. He is the Lord, strong and mighty; the Lord, invincible in battle. Then he said, He is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—he is the King of glory.

David told us at the beginning of this Psalm who the Lord of Glory is. He is the owner of the earth. He is the one who laid its foundations. All can approach Him, but not everyone can enter into His presence.

Who Can Enter into God’s Presence?

Open The Way And Let The King Of Glory Enter!

Who then, can come before Him and stand in His holy place? Verse 4 tells us.

Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies. Psalm 24:4

Have you ever gone to an event where they gave you a gift just for showing up? That usually happens at things like wedding receptions or birthday parties. Look at what those who go into His holy place get.

They will receive the Lord’s blessing and have a right relationship with God their Savior. Such people may seek you and worship in your presence, O God of Jacob  Psalm 24:5-6

It’s at this point in the Psalm that David sang the chorus. Open up, ancient gates!  Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter. And in verse 9 he repeated it. It was almost like he was saying, didn’t you hear me?

A good post that relates to this is called How To Enter Into The Presence Of The Almighty.

Open Up Here Comes The King Of Glory To Enter

Open up you gates, open up you doors. Stand back because the Eternal One, the commander of Heaven’s army is coming through. Yes, He is the glorious King!

Lord, today we have been reminded of your all-powerful splendor. Thank you for inviting us into your presence. On our own, we can’t maintain hands and hearts that are pure, we need your help.
