Our Safety

 Yesterday I was thinking about safety as I was mowing my lawns. When I had lunch earlier, I had been listening to the last half of a testimony of a lady whose husband was killed on the mission field. There were two things that really stood out to me. First, the day her husband was killed he changed his mind on where to go. Instead of going to a place where it was dangerous (the country they were in was at war), he decided to go in a safer direction and go grocery shopping instead. But ironically, he was shot on the way. Second, in the car was this missionary couple, one of their sons and another missionary. Only the husband was killed, but later on they realized that there were bullet holes all over the car. That meant it was a miracle that only one of them died and not all of them. So I had this on my mind as I was mowing my lawns. As I was finishing mowing my driveway I was also remembering how I nearly hit someone backing out recently. Somehow neither of us saw each other until they were right behind me and I had to slam on my brakes. It gave me a huge fright, but I was so thankful I hadn't hit them.

As I turned off my lawnmower and pulled off my earplugs I noticed the words written on them. I must have read them before, but this time it unexpectedly struck me like a voice from heaven "Your safety is in our hands." It looks like a verse from the Bible, but it's not! But it is a Biblical principle that our safety is in God's hands.

The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD. Proverbs 21:31

My times are in thy hand:…Psalms 31:15

And that's really what stood out to me in the story I listened to. Even when we make the safest choices and even when we are in grave danger, at the end of the day our safety is in God's hands. It's not in our hands, as much as we would like it to be. It's not in the government's hands. It's not in the doctor's hands. It's in God's hands.

We should do our best to make safe choices, unless we know God is leading us to do otherwise. But at the end of the day, we will die when our time is up, not a moment before or after. It's in God's hands. What really matters is that we are ready and prepared to meet Him. Then whether we live or die, we will truly be safe.

The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. Proverbs 18:10

In a world full of covid and chaos, I find that a great comfort!
