When Is the Kingdom of God Coming? (Luke 17:20-37) ~ Christine Malkemes

We begin this 4th week of our reading plan with the Pharisees asking Jesus a question concerning the Kingdom of God.

A Simple Question

They don’t simply ask, “What is the Kingdom of God?” or “Where is the Kingdom of God?”. Instead, they questioned Him about when it will come.

Jesus tells them to stop looking for signs and wonders; the Kingdom of God is at hand.

Now having been questioned by the Pharisees as to when the Kingdom of God was coming, He answered and said, “The Kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is or, there it is’ for behold the Kingdom of God is in your midst.”

Luke 17:20-21

What is the Kingdom of God?

The Kingdom of God is spiritual and takes place in our hearts first.

They did not understand because they looked for a physical kingdom, the Messianic Kingdom. There is no kingdom without a king, and the King was there. They didn’t know it.

God’s Kingdom is also the realm where God reigns supreme and Jesus Christ as King.

God’s Will

We are not required to study, analyze, or even speculate where or when it will come. Instead, if we walk in God’s revealed will, we will be prepared to enter into the Kingdom of God.

Remember Lot’s wife.

We should remember Lot’s wife, not because she turned to salt but because she turned away from God’s will. Walk in the center of His will, and you will not fear being left behind.

Be patient and wait. The Second Coming of Christ is near. We cannot hurry the end times, nor can we delay it.

Let someone else stock the bunker for the end times. Maybe they will even increase their arsenal. As for me, I choose to walk humbly in the will of the Lord.  Will He find me faithful, humble, and watchful?

We cannot enter into the Kingdom of God by proxy.  Preparation is personal and intimate. No one can push you into the Kingdom of God, and no one can shove you out. In His good time, Jesus will return. We must live as if it will happen this morning or just after supper tonight. Let the Lord find us ready.

Maranatha!

The early church faced intense persecution, but they were encouraged because they knew that the Kingdom of God was at hand. So they greeted each other with “Maranatha,” which means “come Lord” in Aramaic.

Let the cry of Maranatha be on your lips and readiness in your hearts.

Call to Action:

Find a way, Google or Alexa, to listen to some Maranatha music. You will be encouraged, inspired, and, yes, blessed.

Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus, come!
