Come To The Lord With Thanksgiving In Your Heart

I have mentioned before that the Psalms revolve around three major themes, thanksgiving, praise, and joy. And we see these three working together in our Psalm for today. In the midst of praise and joy, the writer says we must come to the Lord with thanksgiving.

Let us come to him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to him. Psalm 95:2

Early in our ministry, my wife and I conducted kid’s crusades for many years. We enjoyed ministering to children using puppets and visual stories. Each year we developed a new biblical theme.

One of those themes was called “The Christian Garden.” Each night of the crusade we planted a different vegetable.

There were the tatters. You know the hesitator, dictator, commentator, etc. Then there were the turnips. Let’s turn up on time for church. And the Squash as in squash out sin.

In today’s Psalm, the writer spoke about the lettuce patch. He planted 6 “let us” seeds. He began the first verse with 2 of them.

Come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Psalm 95:1

A lot of the Psalms encourage us to sing and shout. Our songs are directed to the Lord. Our shouts are shouts of joy.

The Lord Cherishes Our Thanksgiving

The next verse, our verse for today continues by offering God thanksgiving and singing Psalms of praise. In verses 6 and 7, the Psalmist planted a couple more “let us” seeds.

Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker, for he is our God. Psalm 95:6-7

Those verses of scripture include worshiping together. It says come… which means let’s come together to worship Him.

The Psalmist continued by saying Kneel down. Recently people have been using kneeling as a form of protest. But when we kneel before the Lord, we are exhibiting reverence and adoration.

Do you consider yourself as one of God’s children? If you answered yes, the next line of verse 7 includes you.

We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care. Psalm 95:7

He has His eye on each of us. Not so much to keep us in line. No, He loves us. We will receive protection under the shelter of His wings. But, the writer does also give us a warning.

Listen to the Voice of God

If only you would listen to his voice today! The Lord says, “Don’t harden your hearts as Israel did at Meribah, as they did at Massah in the wilderness For there your ancestors tested and tried my patience, even though they saw everything I did. Psalm 95:7-9

We too are witnesses to God’s mighty works. So, live every day in the Lord. Let thanksgiving, praise, and joy work together in your life. Come together with other Christians to bow down and worship the Lord.

Lord, when the Psalmist said “let us,” he was indicating that our relationship with you is a choice. Today we recommit ourselves to worshiping you. And to also express to you Lord, joy and thanksgiving because of your presence in our lives.
