God Takes No Pleasure In The Life Of The Wicked - Christian Perspectives

The Lord is never against us, but God takes no pleasure in the life of the wicked. We choose where we will stand with Him. If we choose to live the life of the wicked, we will suffer the consequences.

O God, you take no pleasure in wickedness; you cannot tolerate the sins of the wicked. Psalm 5:4

God Takes No Pleasure in Your Wicked Life

In our Psalm for today, it appears David wrote it as a song with 5 stanzas. The second stanza was dedicated to the subject of the wicked. Did you notice he didn’t say God hates the wicked? It says He finds no pleasure in them.

Not because He “won’t” tolerate their sins. No, it says He “cannot” tolerate their sins. The next sentence begins with the word “therefore.” Thus, making it a continuation of the same thought.

Therefore, the proud may not stand in your presence, for you hate all who do evil. Psalm 5:5

This isn’t talking about the pride we have when we or someone else does something we are proud of. The biblical definition of the word pride negatively affects us as follows.

• The biblical sin of pride refers to a high or exalted attitude—the opposite of the virtue of humility, which is the appropriate posture people ought to have with God.

The emphasis is on the attitude behind our pride. It is that type of attitude the Lord described as evil. Two very strong statements comprise verse 6.

You will destroy those who tell lies. The Lord detests murderers and deceivers. Psalm 5:6

What the Lord says About the Wicked in the New Testament

In the book of Revelation, the Lord revealed to the apostle John what would happen to the wicked.

But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death. Revelation 21:8

I want you to notice how the verses in the Psalm and in Revelation are written. They are all in the present tense. We are either unrighteous or righteous. God doesn’t deal with what you were. He is only concerned with what you are.

I’ve seen bumper stickers that have the saying, “I’m a sinner saved by grace.” That is an incorrect statement. If you want to say something like that, the correct way is this. “I once was a sinner, but now I am saved by grace.”

We can even forget the part about “once was a sinner.” God has! Now we are children of the Lord. Let’s move to the last stanza of Psalm 5. It starts with this.

Sing Joyful Praises Forever

But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Spread your protection over them, that all who love your name may be filled with joy. Psalm 5:11

All who know the Lord have a joyful song in their heart. Those who don’t know Him, may experience a season of happiness. But there is no joy within them. Verse 12 ends this Psalm with a blessing and a promise.

For you bless the godly, O Lord; you surround them with your shield of love. Psalm 5:12

No matter what faces you on any given day, if you know Jesus, He protects you by God’s shield of love. It’s something that will see you through each of your days.
