Tired and Overwhelmed

Which of God’s attributes do you find the most encouraging and comforting?

A while ago it was the end of a busy day. I had a headache and felt physically exhausted. Some days are restful and relaxing, but on this day, Lydia (our child with DS) had left me completely tired out.

This verse encouraged me.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matt 11:28

Sometimes being a mother can be utterly exhausting and overwhelming. But we don’t even need to be a mother for life to get that way. I think we can ALL relate.

What brings me the most comfort in those moments is the fact that God is all-knowing. He knows the tiredness we feel. He knows how many things overwhelm us. He knows all the difficulties and our limitations. He doesn’t only care, but He understands. He created women, so He understands us. He understands us better than we understand ourselves. When we cry out to Him, we don’t have to try to make Him understand.

This can be a comfort in another way. When I pray and I see no answers, I may doubt whether God is really hearing me. But then I remember that He is all knowing and everywhere present. That means He doesn’t miss a single prayer!

If you are tired, overwhelmed and burdened for whatever reason, you have a special invitation from our loving Saviour.
