Uncovering Our Hearts

Uncovering Our Hearts

” Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts”.

Psalm 193:23 NIV

The oddest thing brought this verse to mind. I was peeling potatoes with a pairing knife ( I can’t use a potato peeler to save my life). As I was peeling away the skins and bad spots it reminded me of our seemingly tough outer shells, the ones we hide under.

I imagined God peeling away at our hard outer shells, then thinner slices as he gets down to where the bad spots are gone, there it is, our raw and pure hearts. David asked God to search his heart for sin and point it out. He even asked God to search his thoughts. God is all-seeing, all-knowing, and all-powerful. And he is everywhere present. He knows us.

God already knows our hearts. But just as David did, we must ask him to bring sin to our attention. God already knows our anxious thoughts; He’s the only one who can remove our layers of sin, darkness, pain and hurt disobedience, addictions, fears, anxiety, and depression.

He wants to know us. we must ask him in, to search us, to peel away and heal our hardened layers, and take away our bad spots. So that we can move forward into an eternal walk and life with him. And not stay stuck in hurts and darkness that may cause us to miss a beautiful blessed relationship with him.

Pray with me,

Dear Jesus,

I invite you into my heart,

please come close and search me.

I know that you are the only one

who can see and heal the depths

of my heart. Place your sovereign

hand upon me and cleanse me. so

that with renewal, I can move forward with you.

In the name of Jesus, I pray,

Amen.
