The Privileged Life: Pray for Peace in the Ukraine

He shall judge between the nations, and rebuke many people; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nations shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” (Isaiah 2:4)

War. Even after all the conflicts throughout the centuries and in recent years, it is still unthinkable in 2022.

But it has come to the people of Ukraine—a horrific reality as lives are lost, homes are destroyed, children are targeted. All are wounded in one way or another.

The photos and news reports from the frontlines of the conflict reveal a devastating onslaught, and even from our distance, the effect is staggering on us—especially for those of us who have connections on one or both sides. War has arrived closer to home.

I encourage all those who call upon the name of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, to pray for those who are caught in this vortex of terror.

Pray for the Ukrainians who are fighting for their homes and families…that they will prevail. Pray for the Russian soldiers and officers, caught between obeying orders and their own consciences about the murderous results…that they will lay down their arms. Pray for the leaders…that they will end this conflict quickly and go home. Pray for God to release His angels into spiritual warfare…that they will perform His will against tyranny and oppression.

Pray also for protection of missionaries in Ukraine as well as Russia, those who minister to others in the name of Jesus Christ. Pray that God will grant them perseverance in the face of fears and threats.

As we watch this tragedy unfold, let us all raise our voices to Him in prayers of supplication…asking that He may heed the cries of those in distress in Ukraine and restore their homeland and autonomy, especially their privilege to worship Him. In peace.

Holy God, You are the only One who can bring peace to our world. Have mercy upon the people of Ukraine, and end this war as quickly as it has begun. Let Your glory be revealed—You transcend any powers on earth. Pour out Your wrath upon those who defy You, and let those who love You find their victory in You. In the name of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, Amen.
