The Last Adam Became a Life-Giving Spirit for Life to bring forth New Jerusalem

The Lord Jesus terminated many negative things in His death. This prepared the way for Him to impart Himself as “the life” (John 14:6) into us in resurrection. First Peter 1:3 proclaims, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has regenerated us unto a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”

New JerusalemPart of 1 Corinthians 15 presents a contrast between Adam and Christ. Verse 45 declares “The first man, Adam, became a living soul; the last Adam became a life-giving Spirit.” The Lord, as the life-giving Spirit, enlivens our dead spirit (Eph. 2:1) in a new birth.

Some are troubled by 1 Corinthians 15:45 and 2 Corinthians 3:17, “the Lord is the Spirit” because they want to keep the Three of the Trinity separate. They are distinct but do not separate them; they are one God! And these verses are part of the Bible!

As a result of being born again, Jesus Christ is life in us (Col. 3:4), specifically in our spirit. Romans 8:10 says, “if Christ is in you…the spirit is life because of righteousness.” This life grows and spreads into our whole being to make our whole being life, constituting us into New Jerusalem.

In God’s eyes, Christ as life is “the life,” the only life that is pure, unlimited in capability, and eternal in time. This life is seen in New Jerusalem in Revelation 22:1-2, the “river of water of life” and “the tree of life, producing twelve fruits, yielding its fruit each month.”

2 Cor. 3:6, “the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”
1 Cor. 6:17, “he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit.”
