The Lamb on Turning Mountains into Molehills

One of my granddaughters turned two a while ago. I decided to read up on some of the old nursery rhymes so I could repeat them and teach them to her like my mother did with me. I came across “Mary Had a Little Lamb” by Sarah Josepha Hale.

The first verse says:

Mary had a little lamb,
His fleece was white as snow,
And everywhere that Mary went,
The lamb was sure to go.
By Sarah Josepha Hale

Lamb of God

As I read it, an image flashed through my mind. Mary did have a little lamb; she had The Lamb, the Lamb of God. I am not sure why I never noticed this connection to Jesus before now. As I reflected on this connection, I felt called to write a Godly version of this childhood classic, and here is the poem I came up with:

Mary’s Lamb

Mary’s son born The Lamb
He washed our sins white as snow.
And anywhere that we are sent.
Our Lamb ahead of us does go.

The Lamb went to the cross one day.
To show us to love as a rule.
It made the sinners laugh and play.
To see His death so cruel.

And so, His disciplines felt cast out.
But still, they lingered near.
And waited patiently about
Till the Lord did reappear

Why does the Lamb love us so
The early Christians did cry.
He wants to save us, you know.
And take us to heaven, bye, and bye.

His Messages to Us

God hides His messages in secret places as He waits for us. Often, we get so busy in life we miss these little notes from God. I memorized “Mary Had a Little Lamb” as a child and repeated it countless times. But, in the stillness of the morning, I found a new message in it. Mary’s Lamb is the Lamb of God.

I challenge us to take time during this Holy week to stop and listen. Has the Lord left you a message tucked away in an unlikely place? We won’t find it with the TV blaring or our faces glued to our devices. So instead, look for God in the ordinary events of the day. Seek, and we will find Him.

“I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.”

Slow Down

I love the times when God uses everyday things to redirect me to Him. When I take the time to stop and listen, He shows me many wonders. I guess that is one blessing I can take away from this time of quarantine. I can slow down and listen to the whispers of the Lord.

Prayer

Prayer about the Lamb

Father, I thank You for the spotless Lamb of God who is without blemish or defect. I deserved to die for my sins were many, but Jesus, Your Son, died in my place. You have washed me with Your sinless blood, and now I am whiter than snow, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which You prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Therefore, keep us faithful and ever grateful for the blessing of having our sins forgiven. In Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
