WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR HANDS?

Exodus 4:1-5

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Whatever it is you have “in your hands” to do, offer it for God’s service with gladness.

He was frightened, trembling uncontrollably before a bush that was burning, but shouldn’t have been. Then a voice spoke from that bush, telling him, a lowly shepherd, that he would lead his people, the Israelites, out of bondage.

“Me?” asked an intrepid Moses. “I am nothing. I have nothing. Who am I to do so great a feat?”

“What is that in your hand?” the Lord asked.

Moses looked at the dead stick he held. He had picked it up off the ground one day and used it now to poke and prod the stubborn sheep in his flock.

“A staff,” Moses replied, confused.

“Throw it on the ground,” the Lord said.

It became something different: it became a slithering snake, and Moses jumped away from it.

Many times, we can feel like Moses in that we believe we have nothing to offer God. We feel inadequate and incomplete.

But that’s a lie.

Whatever it is you have “in your hand” at this moment in your life—be it your youth or your mature age, your health or your sickness, your wealth or your poverty—God can use it. God will use it. He can change it into something altogether different, something useful and needful for His kingdom.

If you will only offer it up for His service.

In fact, there are myriad ways in which to glorify God and do good for others within your current season of life. You can pray, give, serve, sing, write, do crafts, cook, speak encouragement to those around you. In the strength of God’s power, it can and will accomplish much.

If you are willing, offer to God whatever it is you have “in your hand” today.
