Our Inheritance In Christ

It’s a solemn moment. A loved one had recently passed away. Now everyone stands intently before the attorney hoping they will inherit something. When we stand before the Lord the atmosphere will be much different. Because He has already told us what our inheritance in Christ is.

“Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.”  Ephesians 1:11

In the Old Testament, many of its writers pointed their words toward Christ. But what they were writing remained a mystery to them. God, however, revealed that mystery to us.

God has now revealed to us his mysterious will regarding Christ—which is to fulfill his own good plan. Ephesians 1:9

A TV show that played years ago often ended with the main character saying this. “I love it when a plan comes together.” Of course, God’s plan will never fail!

And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. Ephesians 1:10

God’s intention all along included salvation for all who call upon Him. First for the Jews, then for the Gentiles or should I say, everyone else. Bringing everyone under the authority of Jesus.

God’s purpose was that we Jews who were the first to trust in Christ would bring praise and glory to God. And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. Ephesians 1:12-13

Our Inheritance In Christ Comes with ID

Did you ever belong to a club or organization? How did they know you were a member? Often you received a card or some other type of identification.

Once our names are written in the Lambs Book of Life, we receive our ID. But it’s not a card.

And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago. Ephesians 1:13

Our inheritance in Christ is available to anyone who calls on the name of Jesus. We know that through the Holy Spirit we are identified as belonging to God.

Inheritance In Christ

But it doesn’t stop there. Our salvation comes with a guarantee which also comes by the Spirit of God.

The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. Ephesians 1:14

God extends to us every spiritual blessing in heaven. We know that because right after Paul’s introduction, he said the following.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.  Ephesians 1:3

Are you ready to Praise Him?

Why? Because everything God has made available to us is free.

  • Jesus paid the price for our salvation.
  • Through His Holy Spirit, we are identified in Him.
  • The Holy Spirit has guaranteed our inheritance.

Like I asked. Are you ready to praise Him?

So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding. Ephesians 1:6-8

Lord, thank you for all the wonderful things you have done for us. For your glorious grace and rich kindness. We thank you for our purchased freedom by the blood of Christ. And for showering us with wisdom and understanding.
