How Much Does God Love Me?

God’s love is immeasurable because the scripture tells us that God is love. With that in mind, how does His love relate to us? How much does God love you and me?

God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.  1 John 4:9

We occasionally sang a song with the words of 1 John 4:7-8 when we conducted Kids Crusades. You’ll see that it was years ago because of its King James language. It went like this;

“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God, and every one that loveth is born of God and knoweth God. He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is love.”  Beloved, let us love one another. First John, four, seven, and eight.

The Bible talks a lot about God’s love. The Psalmist wrote, “His love endures forever.”

Today’s verse says He loves us so much that He gave His Son to die for us.

The Apostle Paul gave us the definition of “agape’ love.” This is the same type of love God extends to us.

  • Love is patient and kind.
  • Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude.
  • It does not demand its own way.
  • It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.
  • Love does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.
  • Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

God’s Love is Available to Everyone

God loves us so much, He gave us a choice whether we will accept His love or not. Jesus bridged the gap between sinful man and God by dying on the cross for everyone.

The Lord designed it so we wouldn’t feel manipulated or forced into conforming to His plan of salvation. There are, however, rewards or consequences according to what we choose.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

Today’s scripture verse says God showed how much he loved the world. But how personal is that? How much does he really love you and me? The Psalmist wrote that it is very personal.

I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul. Psalm 31:7

He cares for each of us the same way He cared for the Psalmist. As He reaches out to you are you willing to acknowledge Him? In Revelation, we read that He awaits our response.

Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Revelation 3:20

The Devil Tries to Distort How Much Love God Has for You

The enemy, who is a liar, has convinced people of an untruth. His message is because God is so loving He will unconditionally permit everyone into heaven.

Half of that message is true, God does want everyone to spend eternity with Him in heaven. The untruth lies in the unconditional part. Look what Peter wrote in his second epistle.

The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. 2 Peter 3:9

God is patient and His patience will never wear out. Our opportunity to repent, however, will eventually come to an end.

How much does God love you and me? Enough that He made a way for us to spend eternity with Him.
