In the coming weeks, we’ll be taking a look at each of the fruits of the Holy Spirit and how affirming them cultivates intentional mindfulness within us.

In Philippians 4:8, Paul gives us instructions on what we should think or meditate about.

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”

Philipians 4:8— NLT

According to Wikipedia In common language usage, “fruit” usually means the seed-associated fleshy structures (or produce) of plants that typically are sweet or sour and edible. The fruits of the Spirit are fine points that should naturally grow out of the proceedings of the Holy Spirit in our life.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Galatians 5:22-23— NLT

Fruits of the Spirit affirmations are based upon Scripture to inspire us to cultivate the fruits of the Spirit in our daily lives. The word “Spirit” in these affirmations will be capitalized because these are fruits given to us by the Holy Spirit, not ourselves.

The fruits of the Spirit are:

  • Love
  • Joy
  • Peace
  • Longsuffering
  • Kindness
  • Goodness
  • Faithfulness
  • Gentleness
  • Self-control

Each affirmation consists of scriptures, positive affirmations, and questions to motivate you to go deeper in meditation and study time.

Say the affirmations and scriptures out loud as you work through the study.

Love

Spirit-inspired love is not dependent on events, people, or things. While love typically refers to intense feelings, a Spirit-led love is more significant. God wants us to love Him so much that our love spills over to other people.

Here are some affirmations and verses about love to pause and reflect on to encourage you to love bigger and bolder.

Godly Love

I choose a love that cannot be defined by mortal words. My love is the ultimate love illustrated by God. God is Love. He remolds me so that my character is defined by love.

The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

1 John 4:9— NASB

Selfless Love

I choose to love my God, the great I AM beyond my human capacity, with love surrounding every ounce of me. When I focus on my love for Him, I will have the capability to love others.

“And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Matthew 22:37-39— NASB

Brotherly Love

I choose to love other Christ-followers even though we may have different opinions. I know that the best thing is that the world sees a pattern of God’s love through how I treat others though we may have differing views.

“By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

John 13:35— HBSC

Responding Love

I choose to love because God loved me first. When I choose to exchange the love he gave to me, I enable God to love through me. He gives bounty to my faith by giving me the effectiveness to love others. God gives me the means to love more as I share more love.

“We love because He first loved us.”

1 John 4:19— HBSC

Self Reflections

—What does a love-filled day look like to me?

—How would you define love if your definition of love became the world’s standard?

—How can I share love with others today?
