An Invitation To Salvation Found In Isaiah

Through the prophet Isaiah, God extended a straightforward invitation for us to receive salvation. He wrote, “seek the Lord,’ and “call on Him” years before Jesus came to the earth.

Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. Isaiah 55:6

When Isaiah wrote those words, he directed them toward Israel. God’s vision, however, was much broader because He instructed Isaiah to write the next verse.

Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously.  Isaiah 55:7

God has extended His invitation to salvation to all who will change their ways and turn to Him. As much as some think they can negotiate with the Lord, they can’t. God continued,

My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. Isaiah 55:8

The wisdom of the wise is foolishness to God. His creation goes from a tiny atom to huge planets. And when compared to the earth, they make our planet look like a marble.

We don’t know how far God’s creation extends into outer space. Plus, we haven’t even discovered everything we need to know about our own world. He continued to say,

For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:9

The Lord doesn’t expect us to match wits with Him. Neither does He expect us to understand Him or His ways.

Accepting an Invitation to Salvation

He wants to give us life. We can easily receive it if we “come to Him” and “listen.”

And when you accept His invitation for salvation it includes eternal life.

Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David. Isaiah 55:3

After Isaiah told us that God’s thoughts and ways are higher than ours, He used a simple illustration that we could understand. It began with the results of planting seeds.

The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. Isaiah 55:10

That cute story carries with it some simple facts. But it becomes more than just a story when accompanied by the following application.

It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. Isaiah 55:11

The way I learned verse 11 was as follows. My Word shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please. Isaiah continued by telling us what it will accomplish.

• You will live in joy and peace.
• The mountains and hills will burst into song,
• And the trees of the field will clap their hands!
• Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow.
• Where nettles grew, myrtles will sprout up.
• These events will bring great honor to the Lord’s name;
• They will be an everlasting sign of his power and love.” Isaiah 55:12-13

Joy and Peace

First, His Word accomplishes benefits directly for “you.” You will live in joy and peace. Even if your world is in total turmoil, you can still experience joy and peace.

Both of those characteristics are generated from within us. Which means they grow from the inside out. They are not dependent on the environment we find ourselves in.

You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. 1 Peter 1:8

Our inexpressible joy comes because of our faith in the Lord. It’s a reward for accepting His invitation for our eternal salvation. Now, listen to what we’re told about peace.

You will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7

With God’s joy and peace, no matter what is going on in our lives we can continually praise God. Let’s look at the rest of what Isaiah wrote from a spiritual angle.

With singing and clapping of our hands, we will produce unhindered fruit in our lives. We will bring honor to His name as we enjoy the everlasting sign of his power and love.
