The humility and the love of God.

Exodus 21:32 ~ “But if the ox gores a slave, either male or female, the animal’s owner must pay the slave’s owner thirty silver coins, and the ox must be stoned.”

I hope that today’s post meets you well? I pray that you and your families are doing well and that God’s peace continues to overflow within your hearts. Today’s blog post is going to be very short nonetheless I pray that it will be a source of encouragement for all those who read to remember that God is love. You’re loved by God.

So, upon having my usual daily Bible devotion a specific passage in the book of Exodus grabbed my attention, it literally tugged my heartstrings. And the specific word which inspired me to dig deeper, and further meditate upon holy scripture was the word slave (servant).

A definition

Slave: The Hebrew and Greek words for slave are usually rendered simply “servant,”

Servant: A person who performs duties for others.

When reading the passage Exodus 21:32 one can observe that it explicitly says that a slave (servant) can be bought back for 30 pieces of silver. This is of great significance because when reading the New Testament one can note that Jesus was betrayed by Judas for 30 pieces of silver. Exodus 21:32 foretells the type of life which the Messiah Jesus Christ would live. Scripture tells us that Jesus came to serve and not to be served. I’d also like to highlight that Jesus did not come to Lord it over the people. Christ was a man of integrity and humility, He did not come to earth to make a name for Himself. Neither did He chase after fame. Throughout His lifetime Christ sought to give the Heavenly Father glory by living a life of total obedience, and total surrender.

Matthew 20:28 ~ For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Mark 10:45 ~ For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

Matthew 26:14-15 ~ “Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priests and asked, “How much will you pay me to betray Jesus to you?” And they gave him thirty pieces of silver.”

We are so blessed to have a High Priest who sympathises with us in our weakness’s. Jesus truly knows how it feels to experience pain and suffering. The fact that Christ gave up His divine privileges and gave up His life so that we may be saved and experience life everlasting, shows us just how much God loves us. Never forget how much God loves you. Christ came to save the world and not to condemn the world. We have hope because of the unfailing love of God.

Hebrews 4:14-15 ~ “So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.”

There is no greater love than for a man to lay down his life for his friend and we have a God who did not withhold that which was good for us by giving us His one and only Son to die in our place. God chose to serve us through enabling us to experience a love which knows no bounds, a love which keeps no record of wrong, a love which is unfailing and a love which transcends physical death.
