4 Winds of Life - Raising Zion

On the day of Pentecost, a sudden mighty wind came upon the 120 people gathered in the Upper Chamber. It was the 50th day. Jesus had asked His disciples to wait for the Promise of the Holy Spirit at Jerusalem.

And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. Acts‬ ‭2:2

In the Scriptures, the Holy Spirit – the third person in the Trinity, is often compared with wind, dove, fire, snow and water. By sending the wind He quickens and revives every heart. He refreshes and comforts us whenever we wait upon Him.

In Ezekiel 37:9 God is asking the prophet to prophesy to the wind. The Spirit of God took Ezekiel the prophet and set him in the middle of a valley full of dry bones. The breath of life came into the bones, they stood upon their feet and became an exceeding great army.

WHAT ARE THESE FOUR WINDS AND HOW DO THEY WORK?

These 4 winds are the North Wind, South Wind, East Wind and West Wind. They are the 4 workings of the Holy Spirit to bring us into the stature of the fullness of Christ.

1. North Wind – Song of Songs 4:16 – Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits.

The North Wind brings the rain and makes every grass green. Showers are a blessing. We should allow the Spirit of God to work as the North Wind to bring this blessing from heaven upon us. The rain will refresh us and make us a watered garden. This will spread the fragrance of Christ in us across the garden.

2. South Wind – This Wind brings the heat. Luke 12:55 – And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass.

The heat is to ripen the fruit. The Holy Spirit should always blow over us as the South Wind to ripen the fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22,23 lists the 9 fruit of the Spirit. It is a single fruit with nine tastes. It should be in a ripened state so that it is ready for God to taste.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

3. East Wind – Jeremiah 18:17 – I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will shew them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.

The Spirit of God works in us in 2 ways as the East Wind:

God sent the East Wind to part the Red Sea for the Israelites to pass over. The East Wind will open a way for us where there is no way. The Red Sea refers to trials and problems.
The armies of Pharoah were destroyed when the Red Sea parted. Spiritually it refers to mortifying the deeds of the flesh through the Spirit – Romans 8:13.

4. West Wind – Exodus 10:19 – And the Lord turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one locust in all the coasts of Egypt.

The locust has the power to sting and destroy vegetation. In Revelation 9:3,5 the locust was given power to sting like a scorpion. The words of our mouth should not be like the sting of a scorpion bringing pain and grief to the hearer. Our words should rather render grace to those who hear us.

Thus, the North Wind and South Wind brings blessings upon us, the East Wind and the West Wind destroys the evil natures in us. It’s essential that the Holy Spirit should blow everyday over our lives for these 4 functions to happen in us.

Be blessed!
