How To Know God Personally ? – Part 2

In Part 1 of How To Know God Personally ? we began to look into God’s word to find the answer to this question. Is it possible to know God personally ? It can be a challenge to learn how to know God personally and in real ways because it is not like knowing another person. You cannot see God. And at times you do not hear His voice speaking to you. Or so it seems.

God is a loving, caring, and personal God. Although it may not seem like it, God is always near to us.

“that they should seek the Lord, if perhaps they might reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.” – Acts 17:27

How To Know God Personally ?

God Desires For You To Learn How to Know God Personally

“God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”  – 1 Corinthians 1:9

In Part 1 we learned that God’s main calling for your life is to have the closest possible fellowship with Him. And to have complete unity with Him. Complete unity with God means that you have to let go of your own personal desires, priorities, and passions. And let go of your own will. And allow God to fill you and your heart with His will, and His desires, priorities, and passions. Then you will be one with God, and be able to walk closely with Him.

Unity with God is one of the keys to having the closest possible fellowship with God. And to knowing God personally. When we try to follow our own will, dreams, desires, and passions we will have a very hard time knowing God personally and having close fellowship with Him. Our desires, priorities, passions, and will are different than God’s, and these are the very things that get in our way of knowing God personally. So thus surrendering our will, desires, priorities, and passions are a key to knowing God personally.

How To Know God Personally & Be God’s Friend ?

Very few people in the Bible are called God’s friend. Many people in the Bible knew God and served Him, but very few are actually called God’s friend. Abraham was called God’s friend.

“But you, Israel, My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, descendant of Abraham My friend”  – Isaiah 41:8

“and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “ And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness , and he was called the friend of God.”  – James 2:23

Faith and trust in God is another key to knowing God personally. And to having close fellowship with God and being God’s friend.

How To Know God Personally And To Be His Friend ?

Noah was another person in the Bible who walked closely with God.

“But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.”  – Genesis 6:8-9

Noah found favor and grace with God. Because Noah earnestly sought God, and was faithful and obedient, He found favor with God. And Noah was able to know God personally and walk closely with God. Faithfulness and obedience are other keys to knowing God personally.

In Parts 3 and 4 we will continue to look into the question “How to know God personally” ? And we will see other examples of people that were considered by God to be a friend of His.
