    If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. In 2 Chronicles 7:19-22, God says, “But if you turn away and forsake the decrees and command I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them, then I will uproot Israel from my land, which I have given them, and will reject this temple I have consecrated for my Name. … Because they have forsaken the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who brought them out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them – that is why he brought all this disaster on them.” God means business when we worship ourselves and reject His Word.

At first, I sat on the edge of my seat so that I could see each instrument perform its part in the music. I could hear the violins along with the horns and the percussion along with the oboe. Then, I sat back in my chair, closed my eyes, and began to hear the musical piece as one unit. Not trying to hear each separate part, I was able to hear the whole, and in doing so, the music carried me along a path of beauty and inspiration. As the music played, I also began to think that this must be a tiny idea of what the sounds would be like in heaven! The music will be so beautiful as well as deeply penetrating that we will be carried along the paths of heaven as a gentle breeze. At that moment, I found God in my thoughts and in my spirit. He is the creator of all music and uses it to bring his creation to Himself.

    Time to Declutter – Part 2 – Pathways to Organization

    One tip I shared last time was to go to each room and write down what you could do to that room to make it better: should that room be free of clutter; more organized; more decorated or just cleaner? We rush through life so fast (especially you moms) that we need to take the time to just look at our home and see if there is something that should be changed. So, on my to-do list is to “buy small, clear bins” where I will put all the items I don’t use anymore and store them on a closet shelf or give them away.

    However, 1 Timothy 4:8 instructs us to not over do the exercise: “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” Yes, the vast majority of New Year’s resolutions, even among Christians, are in relation to physical things. Here are some suggestions: Pray to the Lord for wisdom (James 1:5) regarding what resolutions, if any, He would have you make.Pray for wisdom as to how to fulfill the goals God gives you.Rely on God’s strength to help you.Find an accountability partner who will help you and encourage you.Don’t become discouraged with occasional failures; instead, allow them to motivate you further.Don’t become proud or vain but give God the glory. Psalm 37:5-6 says, “Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.” Manna from Heaven Philippians 4:13 tells us, “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.” John 15:5 declares, “I am the vine; you are the branches.

    In essence, you are making goals for each day right down to each hour. And cross them off as you finish each one to show your progress and get a sense of accomplishment. Your children should have chores themselves: maybe each one has a different meal to prepare and clean up; or help with dusting and vacuuming; help with any animals in the home; help folding the wash; sweeping the patio. I believe that by the time a child leaves the house at 18, they should be able to cook, clean, do laundry, balance a checkbook, sew on a button, know when to get the oil changed and tires checked, shop economically, and keep out of debt.

    The next morning before you leave for the day do a “quick clean/organize” all the sleeping areas of your house: Make beds, wipe down bathroom counters, take dirty laundry to laundry room, pick up items that are laying around and put back in their place. I also go through all my drawers, belts, scarves and jewelry and try to reduce to just what I love to wear. NOTE: Have your children do the same with their own closets to teach them at an early age! Now is the time to clear clutter off all your work surfaces and make specific places for papers and work items; go through paper files; clear out old electronic files; clean your lap top, mouse and key-board (with compressed air).

Eat healthy Get more sleep Accomplish more/procrastinate less Clear out the clutter in your home and life Etc., etc. Let’s resolve to grow in our spiritual lives first: To increase our hunger to know God and His Word on an intimate level To have a yearning for private devotion and prayer To be aware of any sin in our life and to ask for forgiveness To have sincere repentance and the desire to become more Christ-like To view spiritual battles – trials, temptation, and failures as avenues of growth instead of obstacles A desire to be used by God in the lives of others To love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength each day. I think having a Thankful and Grateful jar (or you could use a journal, or even a keep a list on your phone will do) this year will be such a blessing! I will be able to see this time next year all God has blessed me with this year.

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12 Christmas is here to remind us of the Precious Gift God gave to you and me. That yes, there is great darkness and evil but… “If we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” I John 1:7 Jesus came for you and me to walk in light away from the darkness. I pray with all my heart that you have a Christmas full of His light in you so that others will see your light and come to the One who saved us.

It is like mining for gold – the gold being those children who need a little help, who need adults to step in and teach them how to make friends, how to join a group, or how to share their gifts. Children who aren’t being noticed may eventually resort to being noticed by any means necessary.” So, now that school has started back, perhaps we can pay a little more attention to the children in our children’s classrooms and those getting off the bus.

    I’m an organizer and I still have a struggle twice a year to get to the closet and sort it all out. To be honest, sometimes it takes me even a few weeks to pull up the energy as well as find the time to get it done. And then once I’ve finished with the clothes I realize I’m still not finished. I have to also do the shoes, belts, etc. It’s a nightmare!!! Action Plan Here are some tips that hopefully will bring your closet back safe and sound: Set a section of time on your calendar when you can commit to doing the work. Nothing is worse than starting a large project like this and then running out of time with clothes everywhere. Start in one section of your closet and literally pull out each item and ask: Do you want to wear it next season or are you ready to give it away? If most of your clothes need to be stored, hopefully you have an extra closet, attic or basement. If you store in an attic or basement, you will need to purchase a wardrobe rack that is covered. Target has some great ones. You can also use a trunk, vacuum plastic bags (at Bed, Bath and Beyond), ventilated under-bed bins or regular bins which you can stack.
