ACTING ON THE WORD

Memorise: “But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed” (James 1:25)

When a gift or service is backed up by sacrifice, its value increases. In 2 Samuel 23:14-17, king David made a very expensive request. He asked for water which could cost the lives of his men. Yet they risked their lives and got it and returned it to him. How the value of that water soared! In like manner, the King of kings is thirsty, not just for ordinary water but for a specific, costly water.

To meet His request, you may have to risk your life – make a sacrifice that could cost all you have! How ready are you to make necessary sacrifice capable of enhancing the value of your gift, service or commitment? In the same vein, your prayer effort can be modified depending on the level of sacrifice involved.

For instance, at the Garden of Gethsemane, our Lord Jesus Christ prayed. It could have just been one of His regular prayers. But his prayer effort was so intense, sacrificial and hot that his sweat became as thick as blood. Once again, value was added to the form of His prayer. How do you pray? How intense is your prayer life?

A look at the lives of these outstanding mighty men of king David reveals certain qualities that would be present in everyone who would satisfy the deepest longing of the King of kings. The truth is, not every believer is ready to pay the price even when they can. The first quality noticeable in the lives of these three men, is that those who will satisfy Christ’s deepest longings must be men and women of action. James 1:22 says we must be doers of the Word.

There are many hearers but very few doers. Some hundreds of people heard David express his desire for special water, yet only three moved into action. There are many believers who hear the needs of the church being announced and they are in a position to help, yet they never do so. When a need is expressed, it is to give you an opportunity to be blessed. If you fail to respond, you are only blocking your way.

Can you see the needs in your church? What have you done about them? Have you seen the unannounced need in the life of your pastor or members of the church? What have you done about it? It is time to rise and meet the needs of the Most High.

If you find it difficult to obey God’s word, heaven cannot retain you among those who will satisfy the deepest needs of the King of kings.
