New Jerusalem is God Blended with His People
New Jerusalem is a city brought forth by the Triune God operating in humanity.
1 Peter 1:3, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has regenerated us unto a living hope.”
Galatians 4:19, “I travail again in birth until Christ is formed in you,”
2 Corinthians 3:18, “We all with unveiled face, beholding and reflecting like a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord Spirit.”
We need to remember that this city is a composition of God blended with all His redeemed people. This composition is arrived at by constitution. When we receive the Triune God into us, the Father is given to us as the gold, the Son is secreting over us to produce the pearls, and the Spirit is transforming us to make us precious stones. These three elements are in our being working in us, and they are the very intrinsic elements that constitute our spiritual being. In a corporate sense, our spiritual being is the church today and the New Jerusalem in the coming ages.*
Regeneration, our second birth, is a one-time event. But Christ being formed in us and the Spirit transforming us are life-long processes. The Triune God is seeking our cooperation with this inner working. God will not force Himself upon us; this is exemplified by “if anyone wants…let him” and “whoever will” in Mark 8:34-35.
Our cooperation and God’s operation bring forth New Jerusalem—a glorious image in and expressed through God’s people.
