The City is in Resurrection with No Night
In the New Jerusalem there will be no night, for “night shall be no more” (Rev. 22:5a). “Night shall not be there” (21:25b). In the new heaven and new earth there will still be the distinction between day and night, but in the New Jerusalem there will be no such distinction. Outside the city there will be night, but within the city there will be no night because the city will have an eternal, divine light, God Himself.*
New Jerusalem is a city fully in resurrection so it is fully, continually, in the light and the light is in it. Any darkness we feel in this age is due to our old, fallen nature. The last part of 1 Corinthians 15 indicates that our old nature will be fully swallowed up by resurrection life.
Living in New Jerusalem is a living in resurrection, in light. There will be no night and we will have no need of night, no desire for night. Resurrection will fully energize our entire being so we will not need to sleep. Our entire time in New Jerusalem will be serving the Triune God, experiencing Him, enjoying Him, and letting Him radiate through all of us.
