Every Thing Gives Him Thanks, Great Is The Lord! - Christian Perspectives
The phrase “the Lord” appears in Psalm 145 nine times. Each one of them points to the goodness and Majesty of God. Once you see what those qualities are, you will understand why every thing gives Him thanks.
All of your works will thank you, Lord, and your faithful followers will praise you. Psalm 145:10
David started this Psalm with exaltation because the Lord was his God and King. Then he went on to say how much he will praise God.
I will praise you every day; yes, I will praise you forever. Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! Psalm 145:2-3
According to verse 7, everyone will tell about God’s goodness. And everyone will sing with joy about His righteousness. This brings us to the next time David says, “the Lord.”
The Lord is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. Psalm 145:8
Aren’t you glad He doesn’t get angry with us? Because of God’s unfailing love, let’s look at what David said next.
The Lord is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all his creation. Psalm 145:9
Right in the center of this Psalm, we are given a reminder. Of how all creation responds to the great things God is. It says every thing gives Him thanks.
Every Faithful Follower Gives Him Thanks
Also, that same verse talks about us, His faithful followers. We will praise Him. So… are you praising the Lord? Here is what we can praise Him for.
- They will speak of the glory of your kingdom;
- They will give examples of your power.
- Then they will tell about your mighty deeds
- And about the majesty and glory of your reign.
- For your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom.
- You rule throughout all generations. Psalm 145:11-13
David also reminded us that God is the ultimate promise keeper. He never goes back on His word.
The Lord always keeps his promises; he is gracious in all he does. Psalm 145:13
David mentioned in a different Psalm that God helps the helpless. God is always there when we call out to Him. Look at what he says in the next verse.
The Lord helps the fallen and lifts those bent beneath their loads. Psalm 145:14
How does God provide for those who look to Him in hope? He satisfies the hunger and thirst of every living thing. He gives them their food as they need it. Then David went on to say.
The Lord is righteous in everything he does; he is filled with kindness. The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth. Psalm 145:17-18
He is a personal God. Righteous, powerful, and full of glory, yet we can still come to Him. We are His creation. He grants our desires. He hears our cries for help.
Who Does The Lord Protect?
The Lord protects all those who love him, but he destroys the wicked. Psalm 145:20
Did you notice who gets protection? It doesn’t say the ones He loves. Why? Because He loves everyone, even the wicked. The choice has always remained ours. Will you receive protection or destruction?
David reminded us of who the Lord is and things He does. He also reminded us of our need for thanksgiving towards God. In his closing verse, he encouraged us to bless the Lord forever.
I will praise the Lord, and may everyone on earth bless his holy name forever and ever. Psalm 145:21
Lord, inspire within us the excitement David must have had when he wrote this Psalm. Being a part of your creation, we offer thanks for all you have blessed us with. And we lift our voices in praise because of who you are.
