A Look Back At MOM - Jewell Utt
As I take a look back at Mom, I’m struck by this amazing woman. She accomplished more in her life by age 40 than most of us do today. She had seven children, a college education, a promising career, a good church, a Christian support group, and a family that stuck together through thick and thin. And yet… when she heard the call of God, she followed in obedience.
Mom was a pioneer among women. At a time in her life, when she could relax and enjoy the fruits of her labor, she instead moved out of her comfort zone and headed for “The Land Of Opportunity.” Shortly after having her last child, she set off for the United States of America. I would think the emotional and physical toll of just having a child would deter her. Instead she put herself aside and focused on the larger mission.
Moses left his homeland at age forty, also. He was fleeing from fear into uncertainly, but God had a plan. Forty years later, Moses led the Israelites out of captivity. Abraham was called by God and went blindly into the unknown. In faith, he followed every step of the way and came to the land of his inheritance.
When I think of the Bible greats, I can’t help but reflect on mom.
None of these roads came easy, not for Moses, Abraham or mom. Their circumstances were not better than ours. Whether great or small, all lives are filled with trials and conflict, but it takes the same faith to walk in obedience. Doubt and fear have nothing on the blessings of God when we trust and obey.
Is God calling You out of your comfort zone?
