ADJUSTMENTS - Jewell Utt
As I watched a Red-Tailed Hawk soar through the air I imagined what peace the freedom to fly brings. Alone, with no apparent threat of predators, he soared high, putting no thought into the mechanics of flight as he expertly navigated the currents.
Birds learn to fly by flying. They test the skies, the wind, the force. The heights they obtain don’t happen by chance. Being a bird doesn’t make them a good flyer. It’s through practice they learn how to manage air currents and make necessary adjustments. When facing an unexpected storm they can maintain balance and navigate safely through it.
We experience life in much the same way. Facing daily pressures we learn to manage harsh winds, making adjustments that help us grow. These adjustments refine our attitudes, define how we handle difficult situations, and determine how we interact with others. Storms force us to be alert and cause us to mature in the faith, as we depend on God to get us through them.
Then we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Ep 4:14
Life includes storms. They cause us to seek God, evaluate our course, and make adjustments. Then, like the Hawk, we can fly in peace and freedom.
