Calling on the Name of the Lord (3)
Romans 10:12-13 assures us that “there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all and rich to all who call upon Him; for whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
We should be calling on the Lord daily, even hourly, to experience His riches. This is another indication that we call on the Lord not only now but also in New Jerusalem because He will not cease being rich to us at that time.
Notice in these verses that to “call upon the Lord” is a synonym for “to call upon the name of the Lord.” The Lord Himself cannot be separated from His name. We call on the Name to contact the Person.
Verse 13 promises salvation in response to calling. This is not only initial salvation upon first believing into the Lord Jesus. It includes the progressing stage touched in Romans 5:10, “much more we will be saved in His life.”
We call on the Lord individually and also together with others. In 2 Timothy 2:22 Paul charged Timothy “flee youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” To flee lust and to pursue the Lord’s attributes are part of our preparation for New Jerusalem.
