Changing How You Think

The seasons are changing, and after weeks of unseasonably warm weather, the daffodils have bloomed and the landscape is changing.

All to be covered in a fresh blanket of snow.

Because I love the warmer weather, it would be easy for me to start whining about the sudden change of temperature–

–if it wasn’t so beautiful.

I love how God reminds us, often in simple ways, that we have much to be thankful for.  To enjoy the beauty of His creation and embrace the moments He has given us–instead of complaining or whining because we are wishing for something different.

Seeing those beautiful flowers covered in snow were a reminder to me that even though beautiful things fade on the outside, it doesn’t mean that they have lost their value.  These flowers will bloom again.

Life is like that, isn’t it?  We grow older, we fade, we change. But as long as we have breath, we have value.

Faith is the foundation of all that I do, and of who I am. That is not something that is visible on the outside–until I let faith change me.

I only blossom and bloom when faith takes deep root and grows.

“For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge, knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with godliness, godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they will keep you from being useless or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  2 Peter 1:5-8

Useless.

Wow.  That’s a scary word. I never want to be useless or unfruitful.  Disposable.

I have an idea that I’m not alone in feeling that way sometimes–but it is just.not.truth. God’s Word says it differently:

“He [God] is not impressed by the strength of a horse; He does not value the power of a man.  The Lord values those who fear Him, those who put their hope in His faithful love.”  Psalm 147:10-11

“For it was You who created my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, and I know this very well.”  Psalm 139:13-14

“Look at how great a love the Father has given us that we should be called God’s children. And we are!” 1 John 3:1

The seasons may remind us of an ever-changing world, but the stark contrast of eternity is that our God never changes.  He always has been, He is, and always will be the same.  All-knowing, all-powerful, loving God who designed a perfect plan for you in this imperfect world.

And it all starts with changing how you think about Him.
