LISTEN INSTEAD

Do you ever marvel at the opportunity that Eve had?  I mean, she had a closeness with God unlike any other woman in existence!  It is hard to fathom how someone so close to the Father could possibly and intentionally walk in disobedience to Him right? If she had the opportunity to walk and live in the perfect garden, in perfect harmony in her spirit with God – Why then, did she squander such an amazing life?

Since Eve had such an intimate relationship with God, I believe she would have known God's heart and that He only wanted what was best for her.  She would have been uniquely acquainted with His infinite love, therein, would of had an in-depth understanding of the rules set before her.  Not only was she told not to eat from that particular tree, but to not touch it, period.

The woman said to the serpent, "From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.' " – Genesis 3:2-3 ESV

To think about it breaks my heart – Eve's life invaded by an evil voice – one foreign to her, and through the innocence of her life, she still must have recognized the wrong.  I cannot imagine that the voice of the evil one sat right in her heart or mind that day, yet as she let her mind shift; she rationalized…and that is all it takes—- one crack in the Armour —

"So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate…" – Genesis 3:6 ESV

With the lies given by the enemy there was a split second decision – a fraction of time- and she no longer was content with the beauty she had all around her, yet…

Don't we do the same? I mean, how many times do we let things delight our eyes and shift our thinking– Making something conformable to reason…

We rationalize, we shift our thoughts just slightly and start to apply our opinion and actions to a cause, or causes that we feel is reasonable and valid, yet that application— the shift that happens internally, is superficial at best, and as we can see with Eve's situation, a fall is the result.

The truth, the credible and trustworthy cause(s) that are a higher standard, a gift to us— that Biblical standard, starts to be ignored just a little, granting access to darkness to invade the heart and mind. This creates a crack in the Armour and lets things into our lives that God does not want there, hence, we lose sight of the good fruit that has already been give to us.

This week— let's challenge ourselves to close the door to rationalization of what the world offers, and only be open to how the Holy Spirit leads.  Let's bring more focus on doing what God says is the right thing to do, see, hear — the way He has told us to live, instead of letting the voices of this world dominate our hearts and minds.
