Developing trust and faith in God

Matt. 15:21 – 28:

“21Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon-possession.” 23Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.” 24He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

25The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said. 26He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs.” 27″Yes, Lord,” she said, “but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” 28Then Jesus answered, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour”.

The Canaanite woman as read in the Bible has a big problem – her daughter was possessed with demons. Jesus one day left his region and went to Tyre and Sidon of about fifty miles away from his place, just because he wanted to deliver a woman who is not even a believer. When she saw Jesus, she desperately cried out to Jesus like the Biblical blind Bartimaeus cried “Thou son of David have mercy on me”. Jesus pretended as if he did not hear the woman cry.

Perhaps, you have been praying and you think God has forgotten, I wish to assure you today that He has not forgotten. Do not wait for people to pray for you, always pray for yourself. The woman had been praying before she met her miracle.

Jer. 17 vs. 5 – 6: “This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD. 6 He will be like a bush in the wastelands; he will not see prosperity when it comes. He will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.

It is a dangerous thing to put your trust in man. The woman prayed, looked for men to save her but there was no deliverance for her daughter who was demonized. But she still kept on praying until she met her appointment of destiny with Jesus the Saviour.

Pro 15:8</strong>:“The LORD detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him”.

Pro 28:9: “If anyone turns a deaf ear to the law, even his prayers are detestable”.

Perhaps, you have been praying and God has not been answering you, check your life and be sure it is not your sins that is hindering your prayers from being answered The Bible says that the prayer of a sinner is an abomination unto God, unless it is prayer of forgiveness. God only listens to the righteous prayers.

When the woman was still asking Jesus for a miracle, Jesus answered her in a provoking manner “ woman it is not good to give children’s food to the dogs”. Which implies that Jesus regarded the woman as a dog. But the woman has a target, she was focused and humble, what she needed was deliverance for her demonized daughter. She wanted her to be healed. And she knew Jesus would do what she needed for her; so she persisted and gave Jesus a humble answer, which touched Jesus mind.

The woman’s daughter was healed at the very moment Jesus prayed. The woman’s prayers were answered beyond her expectations. Maybe you have been asking God for something, it is not that he cannot do whatever you ask him but at times, He could test one’s faith, he will pretended as if he did not hear.

Elijah prayed for seven times until God answered him, and it was the seventh time that God answered him before the rain could fell. Or if there is sin in your lives, he will not hear at all.

Many people today are not focused on God, instead in trusting in God they move from one place to another in search of miracles. It is better two have relationship with God. The woman was persistent until he eventually received her miracle.

Whatever situation, problem, agony etc. you are going through and you have prayed and prayed, my advice to you is to remain persistent until God gives an answer.

Even in the world, you may not achieve success unless you are persistent. For example, Abraham Lincoln sought political office for eight times before he finally became the former President of United States of America

However, the Holy Spirit can only speak to you and counsel you when you have a relationship with God . However, if you do not have a relationship with God, and you desire to start that relationship now, say this simple prayer:

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and have fallen short of your glory. I willingly and sincerely repent of all my sins and pray that your blood cleanse away all my iniquities.

I accept Jesus as my Lord and personal Saviour today and I invite the Holy Spirit into my life in Jesus name. Today I commit myself and every members of my household before you and pray that you watch over us, guide our steps and prevent us from all vices in Jesus name. Let your Holy Spirit lead, direct my steps and give me a humble heart today. And I believe my future is secure in your hands in Jesus name. Amen.
