Memorise: “If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine” (Lk 4:7)
Read: Jonah 1:1-4
I was in the United States of America for a programme in the month of June some years ago. God’s presence was so strong and we were all very excited. We were chatting as we drove back to the hotel where we lodged after the church service. One of my sons sat in the front passenger seat of the jeep, while I sat behind.
On arrival, he opened his door so as to come out and open mine. Somehow, my hand got into the front door. When my son opened the back door, he jammed the front door and cut my hand. I screamed in pain as everyone was confused on what to do. As we made for the room, the pain was unbearable. At that moment, I paused to ask God, Why? His reply was: ‘I visited you and you did not even say ‘Thank you”. I immediately told Him how sorry I was.
Before we got upstairs, the pain disappeared. As I pondered on this incident, I realized that He just wanted to remind me there is no room for nonsense. When God is taking you higher, and you decide to toy with a little disobedience, lust, lie, unforgiveness or bitterness, you will suffer heavily. Each of such acts will cost you so much.
In Genesis 17:1, God asked Abraham to walk before Him and be perfect. If you think walking before Him is too costly a price to pay, the alternative is to walk behind Him. “And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve” (Luke 4:8). Jesus told Satan to get behind Him. It is either you walk before God where no nonsense would be tolerated, or get behind Him where Satan is waiting to deal with you. If you choose to walk behind Him, remember that it is a dangerous thing to be tagged an ex-child of God.
Romans 8:31 says, “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” It is when you walk before God that you are assured nothing and no one would be able to hurt you. That is when you can trample on the head of the serpent, knock witches and wizards and be without harm. But if you move behind Him, the enemies will be waiting to have you for breakfast.
Sickness, sorrow, disappointment, failure and death will all be waiting to have a feel of you. In what way are you feeding your flesh? Are you compromising today? Are you in self government: Like Jonah, are you running from God’s control? God has turned deaf ears to the cries and prayers of some believers today because they are not within His reach. He cannot control them. Are you one of such?
Pray for a mass harvest of souls in all mission fields. Ask for divine protection and provision for all missionaries.
