Do You Really Think God Can't Hear You? - Christian Perspectives

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where someone was talking about you? And, you are standing right there. They were saying things like you weren’t even in the room. Maybe you interrupted them by saying, “excuse me, I’m standing right here.” I wonder how God feels. He is everywhere. Do you think God can’t hear you when you say something, let’s say, ungodly?

I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! Psalm 139:7

I’ve had conversations with agnostics who spoke as if God were a fictional character. Then there are the evolutionists who discredit God by thinking everything started from nothing. Then it all evolved into what it is today.

Others don’t care anything about God yet are quick to use His name in vain. Each of these are pretty bad and they will get their reward. Not for the things I just mentioned, but because of their rejection of Jesus.

We expect worldly people to act like – worldly people. But we shouldn’t expect Christians to act ungodly. Some, however, do, including ourselves! In what ways might I be talking about?

Some Christians talk about him like He’s nowhere around. Or like He’s not paying attention to them at that moment. Some try to stuff God in a little box. They let Him out when it’s convenient for them.

Others doubt His power and ability. So they take matters into their own hands instead of giving them to God. Probably the worst one of all is when Christians express their doubt of God’s love for them.

God Can Hear Us

I wonder how many times He has wanted to say to us, “Excuse me, I’m standing right here.” Let’s look at the next 2 verses David wrote in this Psalm.

If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. And if I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, Psalm 139:8-9

I’m sure most of us already knew that God is everywhere. But, we need to key in on verse 10.

. . . even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. Psalm 139:10

God isn’t waiting around or spying on us to catch us doing something wrong. No, He wants to guide us and support us. In the earlier verses of this chapter, David gave us some other encouraging words as well.

You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. Lord, you know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Psalm 139:3-5

Take Time to Listen to God

Later in this Psalm, David revealed what God really thinks of us. Are you ready for this?

How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me! Psalm 139:17-18

You and I are always on His mind. If that doesn’t lift your spirit for today, nothing will. Aren’t you glad that God can hear us?

Lord, there is absolutely nowhere we can go that you aren’t already there. Thank you for placing your hand of blessing on our heads.

Another post called His Faithful Love Endures Forever tells of God’s love for us.

It would be worth your while to read Psalm 139.
