Drink the Spirit, the Living Water

Revelation 22:14 presents the blessing of washing our robes, partaking of the tree of life, and entering into New Jerusalem.

Another aspect of the enjoyment of God’s redeemed in eternity is the water of life (Rev. 22:17; 21:6). The water of life of the life-giving Spirit is our eternal drink, and the life-giving Spirit is actually the processed and consummated Triune God flowing Himself out to be our drink. We need to both eat and drink, for it is not pleasant to eat without having anything to drink. We praise the Lord that for eternity in the New Jerusalem we will have food, the tree of life, and drink, the life-giving Spirit.*

New JerusalemJohn 7:39a tells us that “the Spirit was not yet.” The Spirit of God was present at creation but the Spirit who can enter man and give life to man was not yet available when John 7 was spoken. John 7:39b tells us why: “because Jesus had not yet been glorified,” that is, He had not yet passed through death and come into resurrection/glorification.

Our drinking of the Spirit as living water is foretold in Isaiah 12. In 12:3 we “draw water with rejoicing from the springs of salvation” and in 12:4 we give thanks to our Lord and call upon His name.

Giving thanks to the Lord and calling on His name are two excellent ways to drink the living water, both now and in New Jerusalem.

        It’s Going to Be Okay

It was one of the worst days of my life. Tragedy struck our family in the worst way and I was emotionally paralyzed. That’s when my friend, Mary, stepped in to do what I couldn’t. She made me a hotel reservation, called the necessary people, and said, “It’s going to be okay.” “It’s going to be okay” is one of the most hope-filled sentiments I can offer to others, Read more...
