Memorise: “No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself, I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father” (John 10:18)
Read: John 10:7-18

The King died. What could be responsible for the death of any king? It could be as a result of old age, illness, accident, assassination, etc. Talking of the King of kings, is it possible for Him to die by sickness? It is impossible because He is life personified. Any germ, bacterium or virus causing sickness and disease that mistakenly touches His body dies instantly.
All through His 33 years on earth, there was no record that He was sick for once. He could never have been. Could He die of old age? Hebrews 1:8-12 says His years does not fail because He is the Ancient of Days, hence He cannot die of old age. He is called the I am that I am because His existence is not determined or affected by fleeting moments, seasons, and years. He is ever constant, operating from dateless past to dateless future (Exodus 3:13-14).
What was therefore responsible for the death of the King of kings? He died only because He allowed Himself to be killed.
In John 10:17-18, although no man could take the life of Jesus Christ, yet at the end of His ministry, He voluntarily laid it down. When Peter tried to resist His arrest, He told him not to bother because by His side were some legions of angels that could wipe out the entire human race in a day.
He asked them to separate because His time to die had come. You shall not die before your appointed time. All plans to take your life will add to it. Draw close to Him and maintain a glorious relationship with Him.
