Feedback Friday: Biblical World View of the News - Colin Kaepernick - Denise Pass

Biblical Worldview

So this is my husband’s idea – to post a current item in the news from this past week and look at it from a biblical world view. Things might get hot in here, but it might also give us further understanding and hopefully provide a forum to pray for our nation and world.

What topics would you like to see discussed here? Leave your suggestion in the comments section below.

Ok, I confess that lately I have not been watching the news…seems rather ironic, then, that I would be posting on the news. In our house, the elections and olympics make us turn on the tv. But I digress . . .

Every day all of the news items filling the air waves can be overwhelming. It might seem easier to crawl underneath a rock and pretend it all does not apply to us, but it does. The world stage is changing rapidly and big and little items affect us – but what should our response be?

This week I heard about an individual unwilling to stand for the pledge of allegiance before a game he was about to play. Evidently he did not want to honor the nation that supports his lifestyle, including a $114,000,000 contract with the San Francisco 49ers, a $12,328,766 signing bonus and an average annual salary of $19,000,000.

It seems much more popular for people to disrespect authority these days. The very nation that gives him freedom to have a dissenting opinion and even to make a “stand” just like Colin Kaepernick did – is not worth his respect.

I watched a YouTube of one young lady discussing the fact that she observed that this same Colin chose to wear a Fidel Castro t-shirt to a press conference. How cool. Wearing a shirt of an evil dictator and honoring him instead of our country. One nation grants the freedom of speech and religion, the other kills those who exercise those same freedoms in opposition to His will. Which should be honored?

Taken one step further, this individual chose to wear socks that featured police as “pigs”. Although he tried to say they are only “rogue cops” featured on the socks clinging to his stinky feet, the statement was a blatant disrespect to law enforcement who risk their lives daily and whose sacrifice often goes unappreciated.

Does this matter to us? What say you? What does the Bible say about this? I leave with this scripture from 2nd Timothy.

2 Timothy 3:1-9

1But understand this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2For people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, without self-control, savage, opposed to what is good, 4treacherous, reckless, conceited, loving pleasure rather than loving God. 5They will maintain the outward appearance of religion but will have repudiated its power. So avoid people like these. 6For some of these insinuate themselves into households and captivate weak women who are overwhelmed with sins and led along by various passions.7Such women are always seeking instruction, yet never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. 8And just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these people – who have warped minds and are disqualified in the faith – also oppose the truth. 9But they will not go much further, for their foolishness will be obvious to everyone, just like it was with Jannes and Jambres.

Lord, help our nation. Open our eyes to recognize the blasphemers in our culture and to point them to You.
