God’s Eternal Economy in Us

God has an economy! This is revealed in the New Testament Greek word oikonomia (οικονομία) in Ephesians 1:10, 3:9, and 1 Timothy 1:4. This Greek word is also translated plan or administration or stewardship in many Bibles.

New JerusalemGod’s economy is His plan for His work in the universe and especially in mankind to reach His goal, New Jerusalem for His manifestation in a corporate humanity saturated with His life and nature.

Romans 8:29-30 presents some of the steps God takes with us toward this goal: foreknowing, predestination, calling, justification, conformation, glorification. This is not all. God also redeemed and regenerated us and is now renewing and transforming us. Glorification is the consummation which brings forth the glory of New Jerusalem.

The eternal economy of God is to dispense Himself in His Divine Trinity — in the Father, in the Son, and in the Spirit — through His incarnation, human living, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension, with the outpouring of the Spirit, into His chosen and redeemed people, to make all of them the same as He is in life and in nature but not in the Godhead, to make them His duplication that they may express Him (Rom. 8:28-29).
The issue of such a divine dispensing is the church as the Body of Christ, as the new man, and as the organism of the Triune God. This organism will consummate in the New Jerusalem as the enlarged, the increased, incarnation of God consummated in full.*   123

Romans 8:29-30 is about God’s actions. Verse 28 mentions our cooperation—”those who love God.” Our loving gives Him the opening to carry out His economy to bring forth New Jerusalem full of His glory, His expression.

Here is a short song about God’s eternal economy.

Sehnsucht in the Blue Ridge Mountains — Nicole O'Meara

Sehnsucht is hard to put into words, as can be seen in my painfully limited ability to describe what I felt at a vista in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Some call it joy. Some called it wistful longing for something you can’t explain. It has been called melancholy and nostalgia. It is all of that, and mo
