Hear God's Voice - Pursuing Intimacy With God

Hear God’s Voice

To hear God’s voice is the most important part of your prayer & fellowship time with God. In order to hear God speaking to you you need to regularly seek Him. And  seek His guidance and will for your life.

Making prayer requests for yourself and for others is an important part of your prayer and fellowship time with God. But to hear God’s voice is by far the most important and vital part of your time with Him. Thus you should give first place in your prayer time to hear God’s voice.

In this 4 part study we will look into how to hear God’s voice.

To Hear God’s Voice Is The Most Important Part Of Your Fellowship Time With Him

Spending fellowship time consistently with God is vital to your relationship with Him. And to hear God’s voice is the most important part of spending time with Him in prayer and in His Word. The only way to know God more is to spend time with Him. And to hear God speaking to you and revealing Himself to you.

The only way to discover God’s will and His calling for you is to have Him reveal it to you. So the first lesson in learning how to hear God’s voice is to understand the vital importance of spending time with God. And that hearing God speak is the most important part of your quiet time with God.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying “this is the way. Walk in it.” – Isaiah 30:31

“Guard your steps when you to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools.” – Ecclesiastes 5:1

The Biblical word for listen means to reverently and attentively listen, with the intent to follow or obey. This is much different than merely hearing God speak. You must in your heart have the intent to do whatever God says to do, especially in His word.

You Cannot Be A True Follower Of Jesus Unless You Learn How To Hear God’s Voice

A true disciple or follower of Jesus knows the voice of their Shepherd. You need to learn how to hear God speaking to you in order to know how to follow and obey Him.That is what the word disciple means. To be a faithful learner and follower of Jesus Christ.

And just as important, you have a heart ready to follow and obey whatever Jesus tells you. Your heart needs to be ready to obey whatever Jesus tells you. Before you even hear Him speak.

“My sheep follow Me because they know My voice. My sheep listen to My voice. I know them, and they follow Me.”  John 10:4,27

The story of Martha and Mary in Luke 10:38-42 is a good example to follow. Martha was all stressed while preparing food and getting ready for Jesus’ visit to their house. Mary was just sitting at Jesus’ feet, listening to every word He had to say. Do not be too busy in your life, or even in your Christian service, that you don’t have time to spend with Jesus. And thus you will miss hearing Jesus speak to you.

Why Should You Listen to God And Follow & Obey Him ?

If you want to know the best way through life, then you need to learn how to hear God speaking to you. If you want to know truth, then you need to hear God’s voice and have Him reveal truth to you. When you want the abundant life Jesus promised, then you must seek & follow Jesus. To know how to follow and obey Jesus, you need Him to show you how.

“I am the way, the truth, and the life.” – John 14:6

“My son pay attention to what I say. Listen closely to my words. Do not let them out of your sight. Keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them and health to a man’s whole body.” – Proverbs 4:20-22

“Blessed are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” – Luke 11:28

Other Verses Showing The Many Benefits of Hearing God’s Voice And Obeying

“This Book of the Law shall not depart form your mouth. So that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.” – Joshua 1:8

“Thus says the Lord your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit. Who leads you in the way you should go. If only you had paid attention to My commandments ! Then your well-being would have been like a river. And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.” – Isaiah 48:17-18

“I have set the LORD continually before me. Because He is at my right hand I will not be shaken. You will make known to me the way of life. In your presence is the fullness of joy. In your right hand there are pleasures forever.” – Psalm 16:8,11

“The secret of the Lord if for those who fear Him. And He make them know His covenant.” – Psalm 25:14

“Now then sons, listen to me. For blessed are those who keep my ways. Listen to instructions and be wise. And do not neglect it. Blessed is the person who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at my doorposts. For one who finds me find life, and obtains favor from the Lord.” – Proverbs 8:32-35
