Help Me With My Unbelief! - She Believes

Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes. Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” Mark 9:23-25

To Believe or Not to Believe?

How is it possible to believe but yet not believe at the same time? This is what the boy’s father claimed in Mark 9 when speaking to Jesus. This man’s son was possessed by a mute spirit, who “wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid.” Mark 9:18. It may sound like a contradiction however when analyzing the story you can see the true meaning of his statement.

This man may have seen or heard about Jesus and his disciples do incredible miracles, giving blind men sight, healing the lepers, having deaf men hear, among many others. He may have believed that Jesus held the power of God and that miracles were indeed possible. However, by reading the story, you will be able to hear his anguish, his disappointment, his discouragement. He didn’t believe that Jesus can do it for him.

This still rings very true today. How many of us see everyone else receive their healings, their miracles, their blessings, but yet here we are like this man saying, “help my unbelief!” Help us believe that you, Lord, indeed can heal, indeed can bless.

The miracle was not just solely for the man’s son, in actuality, the bigger miracle, the bigger healing, was for the father. His broken spirit, maybe even possibly raising his son on his own, and who may had dealt with many hardships and hurts in his life and just thought, well this is my lot in life, yet again my hope is lost, my son cannot be healed.

But God…

However, here came the Light, here came the Healer, here came the Restorer, here came the Savior of the world. That although the world may had abandoned this man, Jesus came to restore his hope. Jesus came to mend his broken spirit. Jesus came to heal him. Jesus came to give him life. How wonderful this man must’ve felt when receiving his son whole and healed. What joy this man must’ve felt. What freedom he must’ve felt. What love he must’ve felt. That Jesus truly paid attention to him and listened. Jesus didn’t condemn or look down on him for his lack of belief, instead Jesus showed Himself to him! May God continue to show ourselves to our lives!

We are that man

Let this be a reminder to us all, we are that man, that man that says, I believe yet help me with my unbelief! We all have had moments of doubt, where we question God and say help me to believe that you are working! That is where the heart of God truly opens up to our hearts, for when we are weak, He is strong.

Nothing is truly impossible for those who believe!

Love you all.

When God Throws a Little Bit of “All Things” in Your Life

I love Romans 8:28. Now, let me be honest…sometimes I don’t. When I am going through a dark time of loss or disappointment, and someone throws a sloppy coat of Romans 8:28 on my open wound, I just want to scream. There. I said it. Paul wrote: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, Read more...

What does it mean to have childlike faith?

What do you think of when you hear the word “childlike?”For many of us, “childlike” might bring to mind something immature, foolish, or naive. Yet when Jesus talked about childlike faith, he wasn’t asking us to be any of these things. He was inviting us into something pure, trusting, and real. This week, I got to help lead worship at a kids' camp. Watching the kids worship was such a beautiful reminder of what childlike faith truly looks like. These kids worshiped, prayed, and talked about God.
