Holy City, Full of God’s Bright Glory (2)
We continue the hymn about New Jerusalem with words by Witness Lee and music by Herbert Booth. The full hymn with music is here.
—God with man completely blended,
——Mystery of godliness.
—God in glory, full, resplendent,
——Man, His dwelling, doth express
The life of Christ in us today is doing the blending work. Currently “great is the mystery of godliness” (1 Tim. 3:16) but the expression will be bountifully complete in New Jerusalem.
—’Tis a vessel universal
——All God’s fulness to express;
—All His beauty manifesting,
——Mingled with His holiness.
The church today and New Jerusalem in eternity is a corporate vessel to contain God in Christ. Unlike current opaque vessels, this divine-human vessel is clear, transparent (Rev. 21:11, 18, 21) to manifest His beauty. As a result of transformation we do not manifest anything of ourselves.
—’Tis a living composition
——Of the saints He hath transformed;
—As the pearls and stones most precious,
——To His image they’re conformed:
This corporate vessel is living because it is created by the life of Christ in us. This life also makes us pearls and living stones (1 Peter 2:5). And while we “love God” we are “conformed to the image of His Son.” (Rom. 8:28-29).
The development process for all of these features is going on today and the perfection will be displayed gloriously by New Jerusalem.
