Rules about giving offering in Churches

Luke 6 vs 36: Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, shall they give into your bosom.

1. Any offering you are giving in your local church is for God, but you are simply putting in care of His messengers as commanded by the Scriptures.
2. Don’t assume you are giving the offering to the Pastor or that you are doing the Pastors a favour by giving the offering, otherwise your offering is given in vain.
3. Don’t seek to control the Pastors on account of the offering you are giving. Don’t expect the Pastor will be at your beck and call or that you will be above rebuke because you are giving a ‘fat’ offering.
4. You should determine what you intend to give at home. You should prepare your offering before going to Church.
5. Don’t give grudgingly. Don’t give under duress, but give because you believe in the principle of giving. God loves a cheerful giver.
6. Give sacrificially. Give something in faith to challenge as led by the Spirit.
7. Any time you have a urge by the Spirit to give; don’t hesitate to give, even if it looks foolish. You cannot out give God.
8. If you are married and have responsibilities to your household- wife and children, ensure you don’t not hurt your family responsibilities and commitments by your act of giving. For instance, it may not be wise to divert the funds meant to pay the School fees of your children as offering. This is debatable but I strongly feel that God expects us to meet our needs even while doing his will. Don’t dip your hands into funds meant for family needs without the support of your wife and making alternative provisions.
9. Pray with your household over your offering requesting that Lord accepts it and claim the blessings for givers.
10. Prepare your offerings properly. Package it well if you are dropping them in an envelop. If possible ensure you give new currency notes and coins. Under the Mosaic laws, God forbids the giving of materials with blemishes as offerings.
