How to Add Meaning to Your Life - Raising Generation Zion

An educationist says Memorisation without Meaning is useless. I agree. You need to understand what you’ve memorised. Possible only by practical exercises.

Growing up in a conservative Pentecostal background, we memorised verses like the Israelites (Deuteronomy 6:4-9). I was terrible at it because I was rebellious concerning competing with each other over the word of God. I veiled my fear of losing with a fact.

Competitions draw comparisons.

Comparisons kill joy.

Not memorising hurt me in the long run. What helped me was paying attention during church and having a home where the word was foundational for thinking, speaking, and doing.

Over time I noticed something quite assuring. All the good thoughts, feelings, words and actions in our lives are driven by God alone. Living alone as I pursued God seriously, I noticed the word manifested in life in time. God is truly present for His children. Sadly, most grow up thinking He is angry or not in the mood to deal with you.

Understanding adds meaning to your life.

King Solomon says when you seek God for wisdom, seek understanding too. Understanding will come when God takes you through the trials and temptations of life. When you get understanding, you will know the meaning of life. Your existence, vocation, and end will be clear to you.

Isaiah prophesied that Jesus was quick in understanding.

And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:

Isaiah 11:2,3

A meaningful life requires a quick understanding in the fear of the Lord. You will NOT judge by what you see or hear, i.e. our natural understanding. Instead, you will love everyone and direct them into the love of God as you recognise their ways. You will hate sin and guide people into all truth.

Are you ready to be taught by the Spirit of God? Surrender your life to Him today. Let Him prepare you for the coming of the Lord. Praise God, and Amen.
