Memorise: “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows” (1 Tim 6:10)Read: 1 Timothy 6:9-10
Without a bait, the hunter’s trap may not catch its target. A bait is very attractive and almost irresistible. For thousands of years, Satan has used certain baits to get many believers into his traps. Let us examine some of them. The first is the love of money. 1 Timothy 6:9-10 says this is the root of all evil. Virtually every evil on earth can be traced to the love of money. The love of money has separated good friends, whole families, churches, etc. It is good to listen to messages on prosperity because God wants you to prosper. But you should know also that God has His path to prosperity. Prosperity by all means or get-rich-quick syndrome are from Satan.
Anyone who tells you to do something which you cannot disclose to your spouse or anybody is definitely not clean. Ignore the fellow. If you make money the underlying consideration for virtually all you do, you would become a victim of Satan’s snare. When money is your main motivation in ministry, you are gone. The love of money is fast eroding voluntary Christian work in church. Believers now want to be paid for rendering regular departmental services. If earth pays you for such services, then be prepared to be without any reward from Heaven. You have to redefine your relationship with money.
Closely allied with the love of money is greed. This has caused great havoc in human relationship. A brother into estate business could not get patronage for a while. He had a particular property but none to hire it. One day, a fellow brother – a policemen linked him with a relative who needed the apartment, and agreed to take it. The brother was glad.
When this police brother was told the rent, he saw it as an opportunity to make a fortune from his relative. He highly inflated the rent and was already calculating what he was going to do with his lion share. After all, his relative was very wealthy and could afford it. But when the amount involved was prohibitive, the would-be client turned it down and that was the end of that business. Both parties lost out to greed! Greed has denied many contractors several businesses and opportunities. Is greed operating in your life?
Repent and put Jesus first. Greed will yet hinder the breakthrough of many. Don’t be its victim!
Let every root of greed in my life be destroyed in Jesus’ Name.
