The Perils of TV and the Internet

The advent of TV and the internet have changed the world dramatically. To some extent, TV and the internet have helped to bring the world right in the corner of our homes. Latest news of happenings around the globe can be instantly circulated. Educational programs can also be viewed via the TV and the internet. As a matter of fact, religious programs can also be viewed from the TV. However, the disadvantages of both far outweighed the advantages.

A recent survey indicates that 50% of the programs shown on TV have some form of sexual contents which could be detrimental to the ethical values of our teenagers. The survey went further to reveal that adolescents watched an estimated three hours of TV on a daily basis. Can you believe that? By simple calculations, three hours of TV a day would amount to 45 days a year. Theoretically, out of the allotted twelve months of the year, one and half month is spent just watching TV. No wonder the TV was recently be tagged “The Devil’s Box” by a famous evangelist. The sad part is that professed Christians are not immune from such addiction to TV.

Dearly beloved, remember that TV could be harmful to your spiritual life and growth. The time that could have been expended praying and reading the Bible is geared towards watching programs on TV that are not beneficial to your soul. This is specifically while it is called “The Devil’s Box.” The devil will do everything within his power to ensure that your attention is shifted from anything that would benefit you eternally. The devil has given the world TV, Computers, and other technological gadgets, but taken Heaven from them. This is similar to when Satan tempted Jesus; “The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. So if you worship me, it will all be yours.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only “(Luke 4:5-8).

Today, many Christians have lost sight of their callings because of the lengthy time spent in front of the “Devil’s Box.” No more  time for prayer, no more time for evangelism, no more time for meditation, no more time for family devotion, no more time for Bible reading, and no more time for self examination. The devil has succeeded in giving them the TV in lieu of their eternal inheritance with God.

Dearly beloved, the night is far spent and the hour is at hand. The Lord would soon come in His glory. The trumpet would soon sound. This is not the time to waste time getting involved in activities that wouldn’t produce fruit of eternity with God. This is not the time to undermined spiritual activities. This is the time to be proactive against the devil in your prayer, destroying every kingdom of darkness. When you steal God’s time to spend excessive amount of time watching the TV, you are paying obeisance to the devil instead of God. No wonder there are so many unmet needs in many Christians lives! No wonder many Christians are constantly under the attack and oppression of the devil! No wonder many Christians no longer have the strength and power to persist in prayer and spiritual devotions!

All you need do is to adhere to the voice of the Holy Spirit and repent. The night is far spent and the hour is at hand.
